Revisit a Road Trip

Robert Pirsig wrote Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values (1974), about his road trip from Minnesota to California, his relationship with his son, and how to reconcile Eastern and Western philosophical traditions.

Take the opportunity to read it if you haven't.  If several years have passed since your first reading experience, discover its benefit today.

Creative Write:  Write about a road trip taken during childhood with a relative or friend where you discovered more than the scenery. What positive and negative impact did the journey have on your young self?

What joys and tensions appeared along the way?  How did a situation amaze or amuse you?

Write it with a child's use of language.  Then write it in reflection from your present point of view. What would you include as insight going from one view to the other?

What would you title the story to reveal its impact?
