The Write Persistence

Daniel Lieberman, professor of human evolution at Harvard University, studied "persistence hunting." He determined that early hunters jogged for long hours until their prey collapsed. Then the hunter could make the kill. Before tools like spears or bows and arrows Lieberman says, "A persistence hunt required hunters to have a theory of mind about prey. They would collect and interpret data about the natural world."

Hugo Alberts, psychologist at the University of Maastricht indicates individuals can take conscious measures to improve their persistence by implementing their intention. Instead of saying you'll write, you write a page after awakening in the morning. With repetition, the goal becomes more concrete.

A positive attitude increases hope and satisfaction, according to Alberts. Goals feel more attainable when one moves into a positive state of mind.

Envision what creates your write attitude.

Creative Write:

Write about how you have conquered setbacks to achieve a writing goal past challenges.
What techniques have you used to stick with a writing project?
How do you reward yourself for your write persistence?
