Write Life's Twists and Turns

"Change your thoughts and you change your world." - Norman Vincent Peale

A trip down the coast from Oregon to California ranges around horse shoes and hairpin turns. The roads narrow for construction and traffic backs up. We try a journey of tranquility through the redwoods but the road sequences keep us vigilant for bicyclists and oncoming traffic. Nervousness prods and prevails at each turn.

Staying calm encourages a mantra rather than a scream. Breathing the air redolent with woodiness and freshness helps. Emotions alter by listening and observing details that twirl in branches and sky.

Colors glow from red of bark to emerald leaves that bounce in shadows. Bird song sparkles the turns as sunlight dapples the road. Nature surrounds and encourages a sense of patience throughout the process.

The trip's challenge mimics the dizziness life offers at times. Paths to discovery never run linear. They zig, then zag; change without warning.

Creativity coaxes beyond feelings of danger while humorous chatter raises buoyancy. Thought patterns alter to accept the curves.

We benefit from sinking into the nervousness. Examining the discord gives insights on ways to hold the moments in awe in spite of frustration. Distraction teases a mind's game until Henry David Thoreau's wisdom kicks in and the world becomes a canvas to the imagination.

Rather than worrying about the next turn, moving into it with words works. It frees the mind to wander and wonder. Feelings of renewal flood with ways to submerge into the present moment until the destination arrives in view.

Someone else conquered the highway with words.

Creative Write: Write about a challenging series of twists and turns in life. How did you manage? How does writing about it in retrospect affect you in this moment?
