The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds, the one thing that remains constant. Life is now. The now is the only point that can take you beyond the limited confines of the mind. All you really need to do is accept this moment fully. You are then at ease in the here and now and at ease with yourself.
- Eckhart Tolle
When it feels difficult to stay in the moment spending time in the garden helps.
By preparing the soil, then pressing a seed, bulb, or plant into the earth you spend quality time in the present.
Weeding takes focus along with watering. This preparation and planting does not cause worry about what will bloom. The present activities nourish the result. Surprises abound.
Digging in the dirt can alter perceptions. Other ways to observe nature arise to distract the mind from worry or struggles.
Take a walk around the block and notice the details.
Find a rainbow of hues in flowers and trees. observe the lights shapes and textures.
Enjoy the spaces and sounds without judgment. Listen for silence beneath the sounds.
Observe the rhythm of your breathing as air flows in and out. Notice the life energy inside your body. Feel gratitude and smile.
Eckhart Tolle says, "The more you focus on time past and future, the more you rob yourself of the potential of now You will notice that in the moment, past is gone and future relates only to the choices to look, smell, feel and breathe."
Let the sunshine in. Feel a flood of energy for change, self-care, and self-renewal.
Add a chuckle or two.
Relish the diversion from despair by living in moments without judgement. Moods will alter as a result.
After experiencing the moments, write your observations.
