Send Snail Mail

Why send snail mail in the technological age of speed? Options available on the internet provide keystrokes, spelling, and grammar control. Zip and off goes email, a text or a tweet.

For me, it's not about efficiency or avoiding the text-speak in symbols. I love to write letters.

Texting is a seamless part of everyday life. Writing a letter reveals the way a writer's ideas and thoughts color a page.

I feel sad that many children today have no idea about cursive writing. They haven't felt the joy of the ink scent on paper. If asked they might respond that a fountain pen means a water feature in a theme park.

In our fast moving world, who takes time to visit a stationery store for a card or stationery? An email will do and many online greeting card sites exist.

Within a decade, the postal service may not sell stamps.  I remember when stamps went from a three cent self-lick to the peel-and-stick variety. Dull stamps gave way to art forms and forever stamps.

I still love to surprise friends with personalized cards and notes they have to take time to open.

Surprise someone today with a penned letter.
