Write Between Laughter and Crying

"Why don't we have a word for the utterance between laughing and crying?" Hig asks in Peter Heller's The Dog Stars.

Laughter and crying assist us to express feelings in the moment. They can become similar in sound and feeling. Often the stimulus for either is not visible. Tickling and bodily pain can induce laughter or weeping but individuals most often become motivated to laugh or cry for emotional reasons.

How would you describe a situation or sensation that falls in that place between laughter and despair?  What would you name it?

A desperance might mean dance in the midst of despair before the laughing begins.  What would it feel like?

Creative Write: Try to access the "between" feeling  by writing what makes you sad and then what you cry about.

Search for something that bridges the gap.  Describe it and add a name.
