Living From the Inside Out

"It is wiser to master oneself than seek to master nature, other people, or the world as the deluded do." — Philip Arnold

Living from the inside out does not mean a self-centered lifestyle. If an individual focuses on ways to activate self-value and self-fulfillment, then self-esteem gains momentum. This simple principle appears difficult to activate at times. Yet, if one does not nurture and develop the self first, nothing germinates to share with others.

A fine line exists between helping others and becoming a people pleaser. Individuals deplete energy by placing others’ needs first. This can lead to frustration, resentment and physical illness. Some may feel a false security from caring for others first. Often it provides a sense of self-worth.

Always taking care of another's needs denies that person the opportunity to learn responsibility for self nurture. Rescuing impedes another's search for self-confidence and learning through life's challenges, successes and mistakes.

How do you care for yourself?

Become aware of ways you give away your Power. What are you trying to get by overly giving?  What would happen if you put yourself first?  What feelings result from answering these questions?  Hidden beneath the desire to serve others lurks a desire to feel good.

Use writing as a means of self-indulgence. Write each day to probe your needs and create a pattern for your renewal through the writing process. Create boundaries and learn to say NO! Start sharing your desire to take care of yourself first without making promises to others that take you away from yourself. Ask family and friends to help you accomplish this feat.

Helping others provides fulfillment when your own physical, mental and emotional health come first.

Let your strengths glow and flow from the inside out.
