Points of View

A man walked from the parking lot to the center of a bridge and surveyed the water and sky. He noticed a child gazing from the other side. She hummed while hopping from foot to foot, viewing the river and waving at birds. Then she walked to the meadow from her side of the bridge.

Daily, each arrived from their end of the bridge and observed nature’s movements from the bridge’s center.

One day a blue heron flew above the child and she followed it over to the other side. She saw the man and asked, “Do you ever approach from the green side?” Startled from his reverie watching clouds and sky, he did not respond.

The child looked toward the cement of the parking lot, shook her head, and danced the bridge to the trees and blossoms.

One day the man came to her side.  “If you look from my view, there’s a meadow beyond the parking lot. A bald eagle’s nest has two eaglets ready to fledge. It might be of interest.”

"Have you seen the Canada geese and ducklings," she pointed to her bridge entrance.

The man chuckled. "We never know what's in another's view? Thanks for sharing yours too."

The girl grabbed his hand, "I miss my Grandpa. Let me show you ducks on my side."
