Background Sounds

Detail music, clatter, weather's pings, and conversation to provide texture to the beginning of a freewriting session. Listen to what rushes around you in unusual ways. Duplicate sounds in phonetics.

Let the sounds lead you to ideas.  Write for fifteen minutes.

Take a break.

Begin with background noises and distractions to set the stage. Enrich a character or characters by the dimension of sounds.  Let cacophony elevate emotion in the scene.  Add a twist of humor.

Creative Write: Escalate tension between a couple at a coffee shop. Begin with song lyrics, add machinery, noise of cutlery and drinking glasses. Try a one-sided rant.. How will silence intrude?
