The Tree Trunk

A tree never dies. Its form evolves into a container of talents that stimulates adventures and good fortune.

One tree experienced centuries of use and changes. All began in the forest when a raven dropped a seed. Near a stream, a sapling grew, nourished by rain and earth. Taking in the breezes and squirrels, a heron or bluejay, the tree grew and thrived in all seasons.

One year, winter weather tossed him down. He divided in several places. By spring, a white egret discovered a way to create a nest  to house baby birds.

Wandering in the forest while searching for food, a homeless fellow found the fallen trunk. He wriggled his fingers over the bark and breathed in the freshness. He smiled at the possibilities and chopped an area to create into a chest.

A simple pattern began. Daily, the young man returned to the fallen tree and chopped more segments. With several projects completed, he sold them at a street market. He continued to carve for his life's renewal. With excitement, he moved on from the homeless life.

At the market, a woman purchased the box for storage of her photographic images. When she investigated the inside and added oil, textures and patterns appeared. The scent of wood aroused her senses. The shapes flowed into patterns that inspired her photography. When she transported photographs to galleries, owners delighted in the work. She always centered the trunk beneath one of the prints.

Patrons at the gallery commented on the presence of the trunk. A young lady, who played the violin, asked to purchase it to hold her sheet music. When she brought out her writings, they seemed to glow with inspiration. She gained more performances with orchestras. During one of her concerts, she had to leave the trunk behind in the wings of a stage. Performances around the country required flying time so she could not take it with her. The trunk gained nicks and scratches from the road trips.

A singer who performed on the stage noticed the trunk and asked if he could take it home and renovate it. The owner of the theatre agreed.  The man found a company who would add a vinyl covering.  He used it as a bench and stored his shoes.

Each time he put on his shoes, he felt energized and renewed. Seated one day, he considered the next step in his career. He auditioned and gained an offer to come a radio announcer. He delivered the trunk to a second hand store when he moved to the city.

Now where will the trunk travel?

What if you brought it home? Consider insights and motivation it will reveal to you?

Would you remove the padding and carve into the wood?

Imagine the good fortune it could bring to you. How will you transfer that possibility?
