Redeem the Darkness

Galway Kinnell's poem, "Middle of he Way," features his solo trek through the snow on Oregon's Mount Gauldy.  He recalls a truth about himself.

I know that I love the day,
The sun on the mountain, the Pacific
Shiny and accomplishing itself in breakers,
But I know I live half alive in the world,
Half my life belongs to the wild darkness.

Discover ways to refresh with awe and reverence for the wild darkness.

Recognize that half of your life belongs to it.

If you do so, it will bring you another experience Kinnell describes as, "an inexplicable sense of joy, as if some happy news had been transmitted to me directly, by-passing the brain."

What does it mean to redeem the darkness?
