Gladness Explored

Novelist Jonathan Safran Foer lists sadnesses:
        sadness of never-could-have been,
             sadness of being misunderstood,
sadness of having too many options,
                      sadness of being smart,
        sadness of awkward conversations,
sadness of the need to create beautiful things,
                        sadness of going unnoticed,
                             sadness of domesticated birds,
                                   sadness of wanting sadness.

Why spend time focused on what doesn't work, or what we have missed in some way?

Explore and appreciate the gladness each sadness could encourage.

Consider turning the sadness into a gladness for having been . . . or gladness for many opportunities.

Where Foer writes about birds captured, reveal a gladness when set free.

Create a gladness of sadness, to turn it into possibilities.
